ARTIST’S STATEMENT

As an artist, I am fascinated with the way dissimilar materials can work in harmony with one another, especially the fragile, organic nature of glass with the industrial, durable strength of metal. Both materials are formed by heat and fire, but the resulting elements are vastly different. I enjoy combining the two into a seamlessly integrated design. The process of draping hot fluid glass over cold hard steel results in the glass embracing and expanding around the metal. The metal then cradles the glass, as if protecting it from harm.

As a former interior designer, color is very important to me. I strive to achieve arresting color combinations, layering and swirling vibrant colors together, and at times carving the color away to reveal distinctive designs. My inspiration comes from the incredibly diverse organic shapes found in the environment, from leaves, flowers and pods to the gracefully curving lines of grasses, roots and trees. I imagine the metal structure as the stem or root, which anchors the glass as the flower or pod.

My work spans from functional blown glass vessels to sculptures incorporating both glass and metal, including wall pieces. Commissions are accepted to ensure that this artwork will fit perfectly into your existing décor.
